Accessibility Statement: Learn.gold Recording

We want you to be able to use Learn.gold Recording (LGR) in your own way.

Primary page content

Learn.gold Recording is where you can access videos to support your learning. You may also use it to create video assignments.

Using Learn.gold Recording

Learn.gold Recording (LGR) (part of learn.gold.ac.uk and available at goldsmiths.cloud.panopto.eu) is provided by Panopto on behalf of Goldsmiths, University of London. Panopto provides additional information about accessibility features on their website.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use it. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • Zoom in up to 300% on a desktop without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

How accessible LGR is

We know some parts of LGR aren’t currently fully accessible:

  • Some videos do not have captions.
  • Some videos and audio do not have audio descriptions.
  • There are a few issues with colour contrast.

Technical information about LGR’s accessibility

Goldsmiths, University of London is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Learn.gold Recordings is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

All content uploaded to Panopto may not comply with WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria yet:

  • Some videos may not include captions. People who are deaf or have a hearing impairment may not be able to access the auditory information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.4.
  • Some videos and audio may not include audio descriptions. People who are blind, visually impaired or cognitively impaired may not be able to access all of the visual information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.5
  • Some videos may contain text with low contrast between the text and background. This can cause the text to be difficult to read for users. This fails success criterion 1.4.3.

We are currently working to fix these issues and aim to provide staff with guidance and support to upload compliant video and audio content. We aim for all content to be WCAG 2.1 AA by September 2025.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

  • Live video streams do not require captions under the regulations.
  • Pre-recorded audio or video uploaded before 23 September 2020 do not require captions or audio description.

How we tested this website

Our supplier (Panopto) has tested the functionality of the product for WCAG 2.1 AA in December 2022. Read Panopto’s Accessibility Conformance Report for additional information about conformance with accessibility standards.

If we have failed to identify a barrier or you experience any issues using Learn.gold Recordings, contact the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team (tel@gold.ac.uk) in the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre (TaLIC).
