On Reich's 80th birthday, contemporary classical pianist and Minimalism scholar Paul Cassidy gives the first UK solo performance of Reich's groundbreaking work Piano Phase.
Written in 1967, Piano Phase (for two pianos or marimbas) is Reich's first work for live performers that employs the same revolutionary 'phasing' technique that characterised his earlier tape compositions.
As a tribute to the composer on his 80th birthday, this is the FIRST time in the UK that Steve Reich's Piano Phase is performed as a solo work.
The concert will feature a short introductory lecture on Reich's music, given by musicologist and Minimalism expert Keith Potter, plus performances of Electric Counterpoint and Clapping Music.
