Event overview
Lecture presented by Goldsmiths Anthropology lecturer Dr Dominique Santos.
In this seminar, the prism of a series of family photographs is used to trace the changes that take place on a patch of land in Southwark, London over a period of 4 years. The land, in SE1, an area undergoing intense and prolonged regeneration, is shown through various guises as it is occupied by a series of ‘pop up’ installations that invite community involvement, and finally developed for use as office space. The presentation offers a glimpse of the kinds of life that can cluster around space, and how the dynamics of power and ownership can profoundly alter urban landscapes. Potential futures are glimpsed, even as they slip away.
All welcome.
