A rare opportunity to hear one of the giants of world literature - novelist, essayist, playwright, journalist, editor, academic and social activist Ngugi wa Thiong’o.
Ngugi has consistently championed the development of literature that communicates directly with the peoples of Africa in their own languages, and was exiled from Kenya for decades because of the political arguments in his novels and plays. Looking back on his achievements, he will consider the renaissance in literary translation in Africa today, assessing the opportunities that exist for writers there as well as the inevitable difficulties.
A Writers’ Centre Norwich ‘Translation in the Margins’ event, in association with the Department of Theatre and Performance, Goldsmiths University of London, Dr Deirdre Osborne, and the Mboka Festival of Arts, Culture and Sport, supported by ADEPT.
This event is related to the MA Black British Writing: http://www.gold.ac.uk/pg/ma-black-british-writing/
