All are welcome to attend this vocal masterclass, featuring students on the BMus and MMus Music Programmes, with Ashley Stafford
Ashley Stafford is a professional musician, singer, teacher and osteopath. His 40 years experience of teaching ranges across every age group and experience level.
His singing career which started as a boy treble in Westminster Abbey, rapidly progressed to an international level after he left Oxford university and he appeared in major concert halls and venues in Europe, USA, the Far East and Australia.
Ashley was a founder member of the Tallis Scholars, worked and recorded with Hilliard Ensemble, and regularly for John Eliot Gardiner and the Monteverdi Choir. Alongside his other professional work, Ashley was also a vicar-choral at St Paul’s Cathedral from 1977 developing an international solo career as a recitalist and oratorio singer of a wide range of musical periods and styles.
Until 2009 for 21 years he was a vocal professor at the Royal College of Music in London. He continues to teach singing in London, Vienna and Helsinki, as well as visiting both Oxford and Cambridge Universities. He was invited to become a vocal tutor at Goldsmith’s College in September 2016.
As an osteopath, Ashley’s particular interest is the integration of vocal and instrumental performance with osteopathic principles. To this end since 1995 he has been running regular workshops for singers and instrumentalists through Il Corpo Cantante.
The focus is the development of a holistic integrated approach to musical interpretation and performance. These workshops to date (1995- present) have taken place regularly in UK, France, Austria, Germany and Finland and Italy.
