Event overview
You are invited to join us in a thematic dinner featuring an edible glacial landscape by artist Esther Kokmeijer.
Set in the cloud seeding vicinities in China or inbetween waves encircling the Marshall Islands, Kokmeijer will speak about our desires and abilities to control nature. As part of this presentation, she will share with us her trilogy, ‘Because We Meet' – an artwork narrated from the perspective of the three stages of water: vapour / liquid / solid.
Kokmeijer will also be sharing more recent research which tracks the seasonal Arctic Tern bird migration from the Arctic to the Antarctic. Taking the origins of nature as a means of investigation, her research and artistic projects has been situated around how the ‘man-made’ and the ‘natural’ intersect.
Esther Kokmeijer is currently based in Rotterdam, with her work exhibited and published worldwide. Graduated as a graphic designer, she ran her own studio until 2008 alongside a photography practice. She has been working as an independent artist since then, where she has been in-residence in the Netherlands, Indonesia, South Korea, Greenland, Antarctica, Spitsbergen, Germany, France, Mongolia, and China. She studied Arctic and Antarctic Science at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG) in 2013 and have been seasonally working as an expedition photographer sailing to the Arctic during the Arctic summer and to Antarctica during the Antarctic summer.
