Event overview
Join dignitaries from Lewisham Council and representatives from Goldsmiths for the public unveiling of a Lewisham maroon plaque commemorating the 1977 Battle of Lewisham
Forty years on to the day, hear short talks from key figures in the project and first-hand accounts from those who were there.
Gather on Clifton Rise for midday for the unveiling of the plaque, followed by a community festival at the Albany from 1pm.
Speakers:
- Dr John Price, Goldsmiths' academic lead for the 'Remembering the Battle of Lewisham' project
- Dr William 'Lez' Henry, Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Sociology, UWL
- John Rees, Stop the War Coalition and People's Assembly Against Austerity
- Councillor Brenda Dacres, New Cross Ward
- Mark Thompson, performing a poem responding to the Battle of Lewisham
- Councillor Joan Millbank, Lewisham Council's Cabinet member for the Third sector and community, will unveil the plaque
