Kyung-Mee Lee, born in 1977, started to take piano lessons at the age of five in her home country of South Korea. She received first prize at the National High School Music Competition, which gave her an opportunity to enter Keimyung University on a scholarship. During her time at university, she attended the St. Petersburg White Night Summer Festival where she performed publicly. Her many public performances have included working with Daegu Municipal Orchestra and Keimyung University Orchestra in her native Korea.
After finishing her Bachelor’s degree in 1999, where she received the highest marks in her year, she came to London for further studies. She completed her Master’s degree in Performance and Postgraduate Advanced Diploma with distinction at Trinity College of Music. In 2001 she was invited to take part in a Masterclass with the Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt at the Wigmore Hall and in 2002 was the winner of the John Longmire Piano Competition. In 2004 she appeared as a soloist with the Goldsmiths Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466 under Professor Alexander Ivashkin. In 2007, she completed her PhD in Performance at Goldsmiths College, University of London, as the first student in the performance-based doctoral degree at the University.
She had a successful debut recital in Seoul and Daegu, Korea in 2007 and in 2008 was invited for a piano recital in PureGold Fesitval, London. Now being resident in Korea, she has been lecturing in Keimyung University as well as performing as a soloist and chamber musician.
