Event overview
Professor Anna Furse, Department of Theatre and Performance, is delighted to host the distinguished satirical cartoonist and Goldsmiths Honorary Fellow Martin Rowson
Getting the Joke
Performance Research Forum Series (Dis-Play 26)
Autumn 2017
Curated and Chaired by Professor Anna Furse
Martin Rowson is a well-loved cartoonist known for his scathing political satirical style. His ‘visual journalism’ - “ the scourge of the British Establishment” - is best known for its regular publication in The Guardian, The Daily Mirror and The Morning Star. When Ken Livingstone was Mayor of the City of London, he was appointed Cartoonist Laureate. Among his many books are his graphic adaptations of The Waste Land, Tristam Shandy and Gullivers Travels, and an illustrated history of world literature in limerick form. His memoir Stuff was long-listed for the Samuel Johnson Prize. Martin is an Honorary Fellow of Goldsmiths. This is the final event in a special PRF series 'Getting the Joke', in which comedians and satirists speak about their work, to celebrate our new BA in Comedy and Satire.
This unmissable illustrated talk - of special interest to students of politics, comedy and satire and journalism, is followed by an informal Q and A session. It is open to all Goldsmiths staff and students.
