Event overview
A journey through two musical worlds and two cultural traditions.
How do you reconcile growing up in the griot tradition of the Kora (African Harp-lute) whilst studying cello and Western classical music? When you delve deeper into these two classical legacies and follow the contours of history where does it take you? Where are the parallels and where are the differences?
In this performance/talk the composer, cellist and kora player, Tunde Jegede, explores some of these questions and shares some of his personal experiences, perspectives and ideas having spent a lifetime as a musician bridging these worlds and traditions. Through this particular looking-glass a new insight and understanding of music history and evolution emerges that may challenge many of our pre-conceived notions of classical music.
