Event overview
A meeting of Tibetan Buddhist ritual music with contemporary Western chamber music.
This event is now sold out, there will be no tickets available to purchase on the door. Please contact Richard Bolley, r.bolley (@gold.ac.uk) for any other details.
Tibetan sounds and ritual will be provided by monks from the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, currently on tour in the UK. Contemporary chamber music will be played by the Ligeti Quartet with Ben Williamson (countertenor), Kate Ryder (pianos), Rosie Bergonzi (percussion) and others. Roger Redgate will direct the larger ensemble pieces. The concert will include the London premiere of excerpts from Christian Mason's Sardinian Songbook and movements from Richard Bolley's cycle Travels with Alex, plus works by John Cage, Elliott Carter, Tristan Murail and Kaija Saariaho. Expect an evening which juxtaposes different sound worlds in unusual ways and incorporates colourful ritualistic elements.
