Event overview
With Brian Alleyne. Part of Anthropology Autumn Term Seminar Series
Geeks have often enjoyed a fractious relationship with non-techies, but nowhere near as toxic as their relationships with other geeks who dare to have slightly different tech preferences. Geeks have always organised themselves along techno-tribal lines. Heated exchanges and tribal conflicts go back to the earliest days of personal computing. This talk illustrates how platform war stories construct the ‘self’ and the ‘enemy’, and how both mindshare and market share are constructed and debated by plotting numbers as well as stories.
