Event overview
With Mark McCrum and Natasha Bell
What does it take to write a successful whodunnit or psychological thriller? Are crime novels, once a sub-genre, now becoming mainstream? And what can literary fiction learn from them?
Natasha Bell grew up in Somerset and lived in York, Massachusetts and Chicago before settling in London. She holds an MA in Creative and Life Writing from Goldsmiths and teaches creative writing at City Lit and London Friend. She met her agent after publishing an extract of her work in progress in the Goldfish anthology, and her debut novel was released by Penguin earlier this year. Exhibit Alexandra is a psychological thriller about a woman who disappears from her seemingly perfect life and her husband's journey to find her. Natasha is currently working on her second novel.
Mark McCrum began his career as a travel writer, with well-received books about Southern Africa (Happy Sad Land), Australia (No Worries) and Ireland (The Craic). These were followed by a candid account of the UK’s first Reality TV programme (Castaway 2000) and a book about Robbie Williams on tour in Europe (Somebody Someday), both of them bestsellers. After Going Dutch In Beijing, a light-hearted look at global etiquette, and Walking With The Wounded, the true story of four Afghan veterans reaching the North Pole, he turned to crime with The Festival Murders and Cruising to Murder. http://www.markmccrum.com
