Event overview
The Centre for Caribbean and Diaspora Studies (CCDS) is launching the first of four high-profile academic events titled 'Slavery and Social Justice' that will help Goldsmiths, its academic community and the wider community to think seriously about the questions raised about the gathering debate about reparations for slavery.
To open the series Professor Selwyn Cudjoe will give a talk titled "Reflections on the writing of the life of William Hardin Burnley". Professor Cudjoe will also present his new book: The Slave Master of Trinidad. Copies will be available for purchase at the event.
Professor Selwyn Cudjoe is a Trinidadian academic, scholar, historian, essayist and editor who is Professor of Africana Studies at Wellesley College. His particular expertise is Caribbean literature and Caribbean intellectual history, and he teaches courses on the African-American literary tradition, African literature, black women writers, and Caribbean literature.
