Event overview
Dr Anna Charalambidou discusses her work studying language and aging.
In this session we will explore language and ageing. How do older people talk and how are they talked about? How do older people index their age identities through lamgauge use? We will also discuss issues in intergenerational communication, including accommodation, and patronising talk.
Dr Anna Charalambidou is the Programme Leader for BA English and Lecturer in English Language at Middlesex University. Her research interests are in discourse analysis and sociolinguistics, encompassing interactional approaches to language and identities research, Cypriot and Greek studies and language and ageing. She was a co-investigator in the AHRC-funded project, Consuming Authenticities, and is now working as Principle Investigator on a project examining attitudes to accent diversity in secondary and higher education.
The seminars are open to all staff and students. Please visit the GoldLingS webpage for a full abstract and further event details (explore.gold/goldlings)
