Event overview
As part of the exhibition programming for 'Anamorphic Waves', Monica Tolia and her performers will be hosting a series of performances and workshops.
'Technologies of Lived Abstraction: Future present’ presents a series of 3-hour durational performances where the performers, as quantified subjects, confront neural network algorithmic architectures impacting the construction of movement in the space. The performers are wearing biosensors that read the data produced through their movements (muscle tension, orientation, speed, etc.). Their data is translated in real-time, producing a constantly moving and mutating light sculpture projection. It is the visualised form of their data, an abstracted “data self”, acting as another body in the space, the performers responding to its unpredictably abstract outputs. Through the duration of the performance, they confront this radical intimacy with the algorithm, each other and the audience.
Performed by Angus Bartlett, Marlen Pflueger, Monica Tolia & Moses Ward
Programming by Terry Clark
Sound by James Philip Brown.
The durational performance will happen daily, and is free!
* See schedule of events for times.
During the exhibition, we will host public movement workshops for all levels, no experience necessary. With supervision and guidance from the performers, participants can wear the sensors used in the performance to control the interactive light sculptures.

* While children are welcome to attend the workshops, they will be unable to wear the sensors due to sizing.
