Event overview
A conference for teachers and writers who are interested in innovative ways of teaching creative writing.
The Goldsmiths’ Centre for Language, Culture and Learning is delighted to invite you to its conference, ‘Teaching Creative Writing: My Thoughts, My Feelings’. Running from 9am-4pm, this conference will explore how creative writing can be taught to 11-18 year olds both inside and outside school.
The morning will primarily focus upon the teaching of creative writing in secondary schools. Goldsmiths alumni who are now expert teachers of English will explain how they teach creative writing in inner-city settings. They will provide helpful tips for teaching as well as encourage delegates to do some of their own creative writing based on the general topic of ‘My Thoughts, My Feelings’, which many of their own pupils are working on in order to produce an anthology of writing, published by Goldsmiths Widening Participation and Education departments.
The afternoon will include talks by post-graduate students on the MA in Creative Writing and Education which will explore innovative ways of teaching creative writing, including using music, pictures and movement to stimulate interesting responses. The day will finish with a keynote address given by Christian Foley, a noted graduate of the MA and Spoken Word Educator.
Tickets are limited and must be purchased for free through Eventbrite. They are open to anyone who is interested in teaching creative writing. Part of the audience at the conference will consist of Goldsmiths PGCE English students as they will be attending as part of their PGCE course: they do not have to book tickets, but everyone else does.
