Richard Jones is a Bristol-born violist and a founding member of Ligeti Quartet with whom he has performed around the world at venues including Carnegie Hall, Curtis Institute and Wigmore Hall as well as less celebrated but equally impressive locations such as a fishing boat in the Thames Estuary and on top of iceberg sculptures as part of successful Greenpeace protest. They have given over 100 world premieres since their formation in 2010 and work regularly with student composers and performers, particularly at Cambridge and Sheffield universities where they hold residencies.
Richard also works regularly as a multi-instrumentalist and arranger outside classical music. He recorded and toured for 2 years with the 2016 Welsh Music Prizewinner Meilyr Jones, performing at most major UK festivals and at South by Southwest in Austin, TX. Other artists he has worked with include Anna Meredith, Bonobo, Dexy’s, Ghostpoet, Neil Hannon, Laura Jurd, Róisin Murphy, Seamus Fogarty, Shabaka Hutchings, Susheela Raman and Wadada Leo Smith.
