Staff and students from the Music Department celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with a varied programme of experimental electro-instrumental music-making.
Daylight Music is a lazy afternoon with music, tea and cake.
An event for all ages, produced by Arctic Circle.
Programme:
Burdocks (1970), Christian Wolf – Outline Ensemble
The Outline Ensemble will perform sections 5 and 6 of ‘Burdocks’. The ensemble is built around plucked, bowed and hammered strings.
Starmaker (2009), Iris Garrelfs
‘Star Maker’ is a mini opera for voice and celestial radio emissions developed by Iris Garrelfs for the Science Museum and Sound and Music to mark the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Relativity (1974), Lily Greenham
‘Lingual music’ is the term that Lily Greenham coined for her compositions layer use tape loops of text to create complex and dense musical structures.
Giant Leap (2019), Daniel James Ross – Goldsmiths Improvising Ensemble
'Giant Leap' is a piece written especially for Daylight Music. The work celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and features improvising musicians and audio recordings from onboard Apollo 11 itself.
The Goldsmiths Improvising Ensemble has also been specially created for this event and features staff and student performers.
