Event overview
A Case for Ethnographic Fiction - with Delwar Hussain Department of Anthropology, The University of Edinburgh
Part of Autumn Term seminar series.
"The Flute Player of Dhaka" is a work of ethnographic fiction. Its centres on a PhD student, Junaid Rahman, who is writing a thesis on the city of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It is the run up to the 2014 General Election and as violence in the city surges between government and opposition activists, Junaid too finds himself spiralling out of control.
In this talk, Delwar Hussain shall read excepts from the book and discuss the process of writing ethnographic fiction as well as its possibilities.
