Event overview
ECL and The Centre for Centre for Language, Culture and Learning present The Roots of Writing with Michael Rosen
Where does writing come from? What are its roots, and what are the conditions for creating a poem?
Michael Rosen (Professor of Children's Literature at Goldsmiths) addresses these questions in his recent book, The Author, first in a theoretical way, taking on the Romantic notion of 'inspiration', and then through a set of poems, exploring wherein his life and reading the ideas for his poetry come from. He also factors in 'feedback' - his response to performing poems in schools, libraries and colleges.
This event will be ideal for people looking at the writing process either as aspiring authors or as teachers. It raises serious questions about who or what an author is - and about the importance of reading.
Is the author dead? Judging by previous events and performances by Michael Rosen, far from it.
