Event overview
The Centre for the Study of the Balkans is honoured to support a film screening and discussion on 'Pretty Village, Pretty Flame' (1996), a film by Srđan Dragojević (Cancelled)
The Centre for the Study of the Balkans is honoured to support a seminar film screening of 'Pretty Village, Pretty Flame' (1996) by Srđan Dragojević, followed by a discussion moderated by Dr. Milja Radović, Research Associate, University of St. Andrews.
The film directed by Serbian director Srđan Dragojević (1996), narrates a non-linear account of the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina 1992-1995. By following the base story about two childhood friends who ended up on different sides, as well as the stories of several Serbian fighters who found themselves trapped in a tunnel during a war action, the discussion will focus on these questions: how does this film rupture historical and socio-political contexts, and how can we consider the creative act of film-making an act of citizenship?
The event is open to students of all departments, as well as to the general public. Please note that the number of seats reserved for the general audience is limited so please book your place.
