Event overview
Part of the Department of Anthropology virtual seminar series autumn 2020/2021
New mediums of technology are enabling new ways of expressing and disseminating academic theory, expanding on the written word and the competitive realm of publishing. Such mediums also allow for previously muted voices (they’ve always been there!) and opinions to comment on and redefine ongoing social debates usually dominated by an old establishment version of the ‘academic voice’. What can the social sciences contribute to important current global debates and how can this knowledge be disseminated to a wider audience?
In discussion of these themes, Chantelle Lewis, current Sociology PhD, and Tissot Regis, current Geography PhD, will give a presentation and Q&A about their anti-racist podcast, Surviving Society. Having just reached their 100th episode, they will talk about how they decided to get started, what creating a podcast means to them, and what it has been like to interview and promote their favourite academic thinkers and community organisers.
With Chantelle Lewis and Tissot Regis, creators/presenters of Surviving Society Podcast
Convenor: Amy Tapsfield
Taking place on Zoom 4pm-6pm Wednesday 14 October 2020.
