Event overview
Part of the Department of Anthropology virtual seminar series autumn 2020/2021
In this talk Shawn Sobers talks through the embodied activism that can come with being an active academic and researcher, and some of the different strategies he has employed in positioning pan-African and anti-racism discourse within his studies. He will talk through some of his research projects, and how he draws upon interdisciplinary approaches to explore topics such as transatlantic slavery and Rastafari culture. Shawn will discuss how he uses the inherent tensions within the discipline of anthropology creatively within his creative practice and research, and how he attempts to reconcile these tensions in his research.
Guest Speaker: Shawn Sobers (University of West England, Bristol)
Convenors: Caterina Sartori and Cathy Nugent
Taking place on Zoom 4pm-6pm Wednesday 25 November 2020.
