Event overview
Goldsmiths Writers' Centre presents...Why women read fiction
Professor Helen Taylor’s book is an accessible and engaging look at contemporary women's reading practices and preferences, which draws on a huge range of questionnaire responses and interviews with women readers and writers — including Hilary Mantel, Louise Doughty, Sarah Dunant, Katie Fforde, Judy Finnigan, and Lennie Goodings. How do distinguished female writers see themselves as readers? How do they relate to women readers? How do they operate within the publishing industry? This is a broad and fascinating overview of the literary industry through the eyes of women readers including childhood reading, book clubs, literary festivals and literary tourism.
