Goldsmiths Writers' Centre presents...The novel, short stories and the culture of criticism: Chris Power talks to Tom Lee
Chris Power has for many years been an important voice in the consideration of the contemporary British short story; his column in the Guardian, “A Brief Survey of the Short Story”, which kicked off in 2007, is “insightful and intellectually nimble”, as Melissa Harrison has written. She praised his own collection of stories, Mothers, as “uniquely unsettling and subtle” when it was published in 2018; now he has produced a novel, A Lonely Man, the tale of a struggling writer living in Berlin who comes across a sensational tale. Haunting and mysterious, it is a striking debut. We welcome him to discuss his novel, his stories, and the critic’s role in the 21st century.
