Event overview
Professor Linda Martín Alcoff, in conversation with Dr Kiran Grewal, reflects on what the decolonial means and why it matters in the contemporary world.
This conversation is hosted by the Unit for Global Justice and the New Social Imaginaries project. It continues our reflections on what the ‘decolonial project’ might involve and why it is important for those of us concerned with social justice in the contemporary world.
Professor Alcoff is one of the world’s leading thinkers on questions of race, gender, epistemology and decoloniality. In this conversation she will share her thoughts on what the decolonial means to her, some of the most pressing challenges we face as part of this project and the types of tools and resources we need to develop to effectively respond.
She will be in conversation with Dr Kiran Grewal, a Reader in the Department of Sociology at Goldsmiths, convenor of the MA in Human Rights, Culture and Social Justice and co-director of the Unit for Global Justice. Kiran runs the 'New Social Imaginaries' project funded by the British Academy which aims at fostering conversation between artists, activists and scholars on rethinking democratic politics and practice.
