Interested in learning some new music? Join us for 6 weekly online classes learning traditional Chinese music in partnership with the Asian Music Unit at Goldsmiths
The courses by expert teachers will last take place online via zoom over a 6-week period. No previous experience is necessary and limited number of instruments will be available for hire during the course.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn Chinese instruments including the guqin (7-stringed zither), guzheng (21-stringed zither), pipa (4-stringed lute), erhu (2-stringed zither) and dizi/xiao (bamboo flutes). Both group and one-to-one classes are offered to participants of different levels of experience. The expert teachers include Dr Cheng Yu (guqin), Wang Xiao (erhu), Li Muqi (guzheng), Zhang Zhuohan (pipa) and Hu Ruijun (dizi/xiao).
Instrumental group lessons:
Erhu fiddle; Beginners: Sundays 14:00-15:30, starting 1st August
Pipa; Beginners: Saturdays 12:00-13:30, starting 31st July
Guzheng zither; Beginners: Sundays 16:00-17:30, starting 1st August
Guzheng zither; Intermediate: Saturdays 16:00-17:30, starting 31st July
Dizi bamboo flutes; Beginners: Mondays 19:00-20:30, starting 26th July
Hulusi (gourd flute); Beginners: Sundays 10:00-11:30, starting 1st August
The courses are organised by the UK Chinese Music Ensemble and the London Youlan Qin Society (LYQS) in collaboration with the Asian Music Unit (AsMU) at Goldsmiths.
Course fees: Group Beginners £120, intermediate/advanced: £150
(10% discount for LYQS members and concessions including Goldsmiths' students)
