Event overview
A series of dynamic workshops and lectures on the theme of ‘inspiration’ and ‘diversity’ in the domain of ‘creative education’
‘Inspiration and Diversity’ will be a conference hosted both in person and online (where appropriate) by Goldsmiths' Centre for Language, Culture and Learning, on 17th December 2021, 9.30am-4pm.
The conference will explore through a series of dynamic online and in-person workshops and lectures on the theme of ‘inspiration’ and ‘diversity’ in the domain of ‘creative education’: the teaching of arts subjects such as writing, art, dance and drama. It is in part a celebration of the publication of Inspiration and Diversity (edited by Deborah Friedland, Francis Gilbert and Gabriel Troiano).
The topics which will be covered, among others, are:
· Using critical pedagogies to stimulate creative writing amongst marginalised groups
· Working creatively with racial categorisations and boxes
· Creative writing as queer rebellion: Creating reflective spaces for understanding gender beyond the binary
· Black Lives Matter and creative inspirations
· Pedagogic frameworks for unleashing Creative Arts students’ voices, empowering them to acknowledge and listen to the academic within
· Using James Baldwin as an inspiration to learn and grow as a writer
Keynote speakers
Laila Sumpton, (@lailanadia on Twitter & laila.sumpton on Instagram) poet, writer and dance devotee, will talk about her work as a creative educator, illustrating how we can use decolonised approaches to make our writing and teaching more inspiring and diverse.
