Event overview
A documentary film, photography and political art by Chilean diaspora to mark Pinochet's brutal dictatorship and the continued fight for justice.
This year marks 50 years since the government of Salvador Allende was overthrown in a military coup lead by General Augusto Pinochet.
Journalist Marcela Pizarro will be screening her film 'Why we still need to talk about El Mercurio and the CIA'.
Isabel Cortes, trade unionist and activist, will present an refugee archive project featuring photographs of El Piquete (The Picket) chronicling the 503-day grassroots campaign born out of Pinochet's arrest in London in 1998.
Jimena Pardo, artist and teacher, will speak on ‘arpillera’ embroidery, from its role in denouncing human right violations during the dictatorship to recording stories of resistance and exile, stitch by stitch, name by name, both in Chile and the diaspora.
We will of course finish the evening with Chilean empanadas.
All welcome to join.
