Event overview
Lovely Rice Pudding and the Inner Organs of Beasts and Fowls: The Gastronomic Contexts of Children's Literature.
Often what is lacking in histories of children's books is a sense of context – what is going on in the literary, cultural and social worlds surrounding them. In this seminar, Professor Peter Hunt argues that by concentrating on how food is portrayed in children’s and adults’ texts, we can get an idea of how children’s books reflect, contradict, or even lead cultural developments through, in this case, the twentieth century.
The seminar is available to join online or in-person at the Goldsmiths, University of London campus.
This seminar is hosted by the Children's and YA Literature Research Forum (CYALRF) within the Centre for Language, Culture and Learning at Goldsmiths.
