Event overview
Educational Futures: Governing Datafication and EdTech Book presentation and panel discussion with Victoria Hedlund and Dr Sipho Morrison, hosted by CISJ
As education increasingly relies on data-intensive algorithmic systems, private corporate power grows unabated. This event marks the launch of Goldsmiths associate lecturer and LSE Visiting Fellow Velislava Hillman’s book, Taming EdTech: Why Children Stand to Lose in an Unregulated Digitised Classroom, where she explores the promises and challenges of digitising and datafying education.
Dr Velislava Hillman examines how EdTech platforms shape classroom dynamics and proposes more robust oversight of the AI and EdTech industry by drawing comparisons with the strict audit cultures educational institutions themselves have undergone for decades.
Join the seminar to explore how digital platforms shape classroom dynamics and teacher-pupil relationships, highlight the growing power inequalities as data-intensive systems gain authority in education, and discuss reversing these asymmetries.
Following Veli's book presentation, there will be a panel discussion with Victoria Hedlund and Dr Sipho Morrison, Goldsmiths University of London
This is a hubrid event. It will take place at Richard Hoggard Buidling, Room 2104 Chesterman Meeting Room, Goldsmiths University of London.
