Visual Cultures Guest Lecture Series - BARBARA BOLT
This paper returns to the foundational work of J.L.Austin on the speech act and to Judith Butler’s reiteration of performativity, in order to define its concepts, set out possible methodologies and interpretive methods, and assess whether a performative paradigm for the creative arts really can hold its own within the broader field of research.
BARBARA BOLT
Practicing artist who has also written extensively on the visual arts and its relationship to philosophy; publications include a monograph Art Beyond Representation: The Performative Power of the Image and two edited publications, Practice as Research: Approaches to Creative Arts Enquiry and Sensorium: Aesthetics, Art, Life; and the newly completed monograph Heidegger Reframed.
