Event overview
In this week's session of the Goldsmiths Literature Seminar (GLITS), Amy Rushton (Goldsmiths) will be chairing a reading group on ethical criticism. The seminar will begin with a discussion of Wayne C. Booth's essay, 'Why Ethical Criticism Can Never Be Simple'. Amy will also contextualise this essay in light of Dave Eggers' novel What is the What, a fictionalised memoir of Valentino Deng, a Sudanese refugee.
The Booth essay is available from an envelope outside Jacqueline Rattray's office in WT404, and an extract is available here: http://tinyurl.com/5uv9xx. Knowledge of What is the What is not essential for participation, but it might be useful to familiarise yourself with the premise: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_is_the_What.
The session begins at 5pm in Hatcham House, and is expected to run until approx. 6.30pm, with refreshments served afterwards.
All welcome.
