Event overview
In a change from our usual schedule we have two short papers in this session of the Goldsmiths Literature Seminar (GLITS).
1) Adi Drori-Avraham (Goldsmiths) presents a critical paper on 'Levinas, Abraham and Odysseus on the Way to Literature'.
2) Patsy Hickman (Goldsmiths) presents a creative paper on the themes of memoir and the imagination for this week's Goldsmiths Literature Seminar (GLITS) session.
Her abstract follows:

"The old conception, replaced by a later choice,
is a way of seeing and then seeing again. [...] I wanted to see
what was there for me once, what is there for me now."
--Lillian Hellman Pentimento, 1973.
Memoir is characteristically coloured by variances of memory that
serve to revisit personal encounter(s) within the passage of time.
Often, the conceit within memoir investigates its author’s maturing
process and always transformation through experience. The
justification is that if the writing is good enough, truth will
emerge.I had to write about a great uncle, imprisoned in nineteen
forty-six for ‘contributing to the delinquency of a minor’ and
later in 1949 for ‘corrupting the youth of California.’ I met him
once, when I was four years old, when he visited my family shortly
before his death. Although the meeting happened, I have no memory
of the encounter, but I write in hopes of explaining how and why I
felt I had to come to terms with writing of him. It was not an
easy decision.
