About the Performance:
COME GOOD RAIN
Setting: Uganda and Kenya, 1970s-1980s.
The play will run for 2 hours, including a 15-minute interval.

Come Good Rain is dedicated, as always, in loving memory of Auntie Gladys, and to many other friends and relatives who have since joined the ancestral realms.
Uganda
The Republic of Uganda is situated on the equator in the east-central part of Africa. Neighbouring countries include: Zaire to the west, Sudan to the north, Kenya to the east, and Tanzania and Rwanda to the south. Its capital is Kampala.
1882-1962 Under British Colonial rule.
1962 The Kabaka (King) of Buganda, Sir Edward Frederick Mutesa II, is elected President.
1966 Milton Obote deposes the President and establishes a one-party state.
1971 General Idi Amin, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, deposes Obote, is installed as president, and over the next few years begins a reign of terror that destroys the political and economic fabric of the country. The Asian population is expelled.
1978 To divert the army, Amin wages war on neighbouring Tanzania. The Tanzanian army and Ugandan opposition groups capture Kampala and Amin flees in April 1979.
1980 Obote re-assumes the presidency after a fraudulent election. Obote is overthrown by his one-time cohorts, including Paulo Muwanga and Bazilio Okello.
1986 Yoweri Kaguta, Museveni and his NRA overthrow the cohorts, ending the terror and introducing widespread reforms. Museveni inherits a devastated country.
2005 President Museveni has been in power for 19 years, including the pre-war Constitution Years. Ugandan law stipulates he cannot run for a third term. So far, he has refused to relinquish power. Museveni appears to be in pursuit of a third term. If this occurs, his heroic legacy could be washed away by that single act.. There is, however, the chance that he will step down and leave his legacy, country and constitution intact. He has not; far from it.
