Goldsmiths Literature Seminar
Helen Palmer (Goldsmiths)
From the paronomasia of Lewis Carroll to the howls and screams of Artaud, Deleuze’s journey from sense to nonsense is slippery, evasive and always paradoxical. This paper will analyse Deleuze’s linguistic system alongside various Russian and Italian Futurist manifestos. Language evades meaning and becomes something other than itself, and it is this intensification of matter, form and concept in both Deleuzean and avant-garde writing practices which problematises the boundaries between literature and philosophy.
