As part of the Bodies and Socio-Histories interdisciplinary colloquium, there will be two performances from practice based research students.
Nayika, performed by Scheherazaad Cooper is a solo performance of Odissi Indian Classical Dance.
Odissi Indian classical dance originated in the temples of Orissa, India; evidence of which dates back to the 2nd century B.C.E. This lyrical dance form based on the Natyashastra combines delicate or Lasya upper body movement with firm and solid or Taandav footwork, the juxtapositions combine to form the movements of the style. Orissi follows the three distinct variations in dance type known as Nritta, Nritya, and Abhinaya which can be defined as: pure, lyrical, and expressive.
HTAP, Studio no.3, is directed by Jorge M Crecis.
A piece commissioned by Teatro Victoria (Tenerife - Spain) as a collaboration between canaries musician and dancers. The work proposed is an exercise between space, gesture and body. The exercise is performed within a confined mood, lead by precise, sober and pragmatic actions.
