Translations between social research and design/innovation: a workshop for PhD students and early career researchers
Recent years have seen a burgeoning of creative research practice at the intersection of social science and design.
This workshop will explore the ways in which social research is used by those involved in design and innovation processes. It will give the participants the opportunity to think about a variety of ways in which their research might be presented and developed in these contexts, and critically reflect on these translations.
This workshop is funded as part of Nina Wakeford’s ESRC Fellowship project exploring the interchanges between social science and art/design in technology research. There will be no fee for attendance.
It is anticipated that participants will be advanced PhD students or post-doctoral researchers undertaking empirical research in the disciplines of sociology, science and technology studies, anthropology, gender studies and cultural studies or associated fields, and that they do not have extensive previous experience in design or related industries.
If you are interested in applying for this workshop, please contact sociology@gold.ac.uk by 1 June 2010 at the latest.
Please state in your email your name, institution, disciplinary area, brief 200-300 word description of current research (including actual/proposed title of thesis, description of empirical research) and actual or anticipated date of PhD completion.
We expect participants to attend the associated Goldsmiths day conference on design and social science "Making and Opening: Entangling Design and Social Science" on Friday 24 September
