Abstract:
The concept of 'force' figures prominently in Deleuze's interpretation of Foucault's philosophy; for many commentators, however, this has been one of the most troubling aspects in his Foucault. This paper looks at the inflection that Foucault's work takes after The Order of Things, suggesting that not only is that the moment when he develops an implicit ontology that will remain active in his thought until the end, but also pointing out what in it may be at odds with an interpretation that foregrounds the concept of force.
Rodrigo Nunes is a post-doctoral research associate in philosophy at PUCRS, Porto Alegre, Brazil with a grant from CAPES - Brazilian government. He holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London, where he wrote a thesis on immanence and philosophy in Foucault and Deleuze. His texts have appeared in such publications as Radical Philosophy, Deleuze Studies, Tranversal, ephemera and Mute. He is a member of the editorial collective of Turbulence (http://www.turbulence.org.uk).
