Event overview
A showcase of postgrad sound practice across Goldsmiths in St. James's Church
SHO-ZYG is a showcase of artists working with sound from Goldsmiths, University of London. It takes its title from Hugh Davies' hand made instruments, built within the covers of the SHO-ZYG volume of an encyclopaedia.
Led by Goldsmiths Sound Practice Research (SPR), and drawing from the college's rich history of experimental sound practice, the showcase will host installations, performances, talks and exhibitions, exploring the breadth of sound practice across the college. There will be a series of exhibitions exploring the history of Goldsmiths Electronic Music Studios (EMS), including material from the British Library archives of the EMS founder and groundbreaking electronic musician, Hugh Davies, and items from the archive of Daphne Oram, pioneering composer and founder of the BBC Radiophonic workshop.
