Event overview
A nine-day festival on visual urbanism, curated by Paul Halliday
Urban Photo Fest is an international photographic festival focusing on urban photography and associated visual research. This international event draws on a wide range of approaches to image-making within contemporary and historical city-based photography and lens-media arts. Its primary aim is to provide critical engagement within and between the fields of visual urbanism, lens-based arts practices, photojournalism, filmmaking, urban sociology, cultural geography, anthropology and art history; in order to encourage dialogue between the visual and theoretical realms. Urban Photo Fest is supported by a number of internationally established photographic artists and institutions and will build upon the on-going annual Urban Encounters conference hosted at Tate Britain in collaboration with iAVU (International Association of Visual Urbanists) and Goldsmiths, symposia, seminars and practice workshops; and will facilitate meaningful conversations with key urban theorists and visual practitioners whose work investigates the nature of city life, past the present. Visit the festival's website at http://www.urbanphotofest.org for the full programme and details about bookings.
