Goldsmiths Department of Anthropology presents two speeches and a following discussion on animal ethics to raise these questions: Are animal rights applicable? Is animal liberation possible? What has animal freedom got to do with our freedom?
Firstly Guray Tezcan from Freedom to Earth Association Istanbul will introduce key theoretical terms on animal ethics and will cover topics such as speciesism, the connection between speciesism and racism-sexism, animal rights exploitations and birth of animal ethics.
Then Laura Gough from Animal Equality London will present the practical side of animal rights; she will tell on which principles their organisation is founded, what kind of awareness campaigns they do and how they investigate the industry that makes money from animal exploitation.
Speeches will be followed by a Q&A part, so that everyone can pose any questions on their mind, create a positive discussion environment on the topic and leave the room probably with more questions.
We welcome not only people who are already interested in animal rights, but anyone who is interested in ethics, freedom, ecology, feminism, LGBT rights, anti-fascism, anti-civilization and anti-capitalism.
