'Contemplating Shostakovich: Life, Music and Film'
Pushkin House, The Centre for Russian Music, Goldsmiths, and the University of Birmingham cordially invite you to a celebration to mark the publication of ‘Contemplating Shostakovich: Life, Music and Film’ edited by Alexander Ivashkin and Andrew Kirkman.
'Contemplating Shostakovich' marks an important new stage in the understanding of Shostakovich and his working environment.
Each chapter covers aspects of the composer’s output in the context of his life and cultural milieu. This invaluable collection offers remarkable new insight, in both depth and range, into the nature of the composer’s working circumstances and of his response to them.
Ashgate Publishers will arrange the book sale at 50 percent of normal price at the launch.
There will be a performance of Shostakovich’s cello works by the Purcell Specialist Music School students Anastasia Kuznetsova, cello, and Martin Bartlett, piano
