Event overview
'Technological and processual analyses of contemporary popular music recordings'
All welcome, not just for graduates!
Samantha Bennett has worked professionally in the music and audio industries for 15 years, first as a working musician and later as a recording engineer. She is currently company secretary of a live audio engineering business specialising in FOH and tour production for mainstream popular music artists and co-owns a Pro Tools post-production facility, focussing on the niche area of live concert mixing.
Following work in 2 London recording studios, she moved into teaching in 2003 and was soon appointed Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the FdA Music Technology at City of Westminster College.
After completing PGCE and MA degrees, she was awarded an AHRC scholarship to study for a Ph.D in Popular Music Recording Techniques at the University of Surrey, under Prof. Allan Moore's supervision. Since completing my Doctorate, she has regularly presented at conferences worldwide, including AES, ARP and IASPM. Her work has been published in a number of academic journals and she is currently completing my first book, Modern Records, Maverick Methods: Technology and Process in Contemporary Record Production, forthcoming from Michigan University Press. She currently serves as editor for the Journal on the Art of Record Production.
