Event overview
Save Lewisham Hospital, Save the NHS
If it wasn’t so serious, it would be a joke…
Hospitals are being reduced and closed in the UK. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!
On November 24th, the people of Lewisham marched in their thousands to protest the proposed closure of their local A & E and maternity services. Following this, the community continued to defend their local hospital through demonstrations, rallies, meetings and public events. Accidental Theatre has supported the campaign providing songs, sketches, and street performances as a means of protest. The company uses comedy to highlight the ridiculous nature of the of the planned hospital reductions - these cuts can’t be treated with a plaster.
Laughter is the Best Medicine is a compilation of these songs, sketches and street performances, aiming to provide an entertaining and educational exploration of the public debate.
Support us. Support Lewisham. Support the NHS.

Sir Veillance
In a world dominated by surveillance and voyeurism, can you ever really be yourself?
Join us for an installation piece that explores the way in which our awareness of surveillance affects the way we act, and more importantly, the way YOU act.
With surveillance being a key issue in society, we were keen to see how an awareness of it affects the behaviour of young people. Since November we have been conducting interviews and workshops with young people in the community to question their awareness of their own personal behaviour under surveillance. These workshops and interviews have included groups such as Montage Theatre Arts Youth Group, Weapon of Choice and Goldsmiths Students.

Milk and Two
“Experience with you has shaped,
what we’ve been able to create.
So, we’re inviting you to tea
with lots of things for you to see.
Points of thought for young and old
you’re not so different, we’ve been told.
For you to share and have the chance
to take a sip and have a glance,
as we explore the common ground
between two ages we have found.”
Milk and Two have created an intergenerational applied project, bringing together two groups of people, of different generations, who may not usually have the opportunity to share in an open dialogue. What better way to achieve this interaction than through a tea party? But this is a tea party with a twist (or two).
Over the last four months we have developed relationships through volunteering with Stockwell Good Neighbours at Oval House Theatre, and the Year Nine drama group at Deptford Green School. Through drama workshops, talking and sharing with these groups, we learnt about their experiences of being their own age and their outside perceptions of other people’s ages. From these exchanges we have created performative material to present to both groups, which will show the common ground across generations.
