Nowruz 1393 (New Year) will be celebrated on the Spring Equinox.
About 300 million people worldwide celebrate Nowruz, with traditions and rituals particularly strong in the Balkans, the Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions, the Caucasus, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East. Nowruz is an ancestral festivity marking the first day of spring and the renewal of nature. Nowruz promotes peace and solidarity, particularly in families. The day also focuses reconciliation and neighborliness, contributing to cultural diversity and friendship among peoples and different communities.
Organised by Goldsmiths' Afghanistan Music Unit (Prof. John Baily, Head of AMU) and the Afghanistan and Central Asia Association in New Cross (Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi, Head of ACAA), there will be music, speeches from members of the community, poetry from Afghan supplementary school students, food, entertainments and opportunities for networking.
The day includes the highlight of the celebration - the Nowruz tradition of displaying "Haft Sun or the seven 'S's".
from 4pm onwards.
Tickets are £10 for non Goldsmiths students and available from Dr. Nooralhaq Nasimi, Director
