Talk Title:
From Art to Avatar: explorations of complexity
Brief overview of talk:
This talk will reflect on 20 years of work in computer graphics, comparing experiences in commercial production (such as Walking with Dinosaurs, Avatar and The Matrix: Reloaded and Revolutions) with personal artistic exploration. A consistent theme has been how to use digital technology to explore and harness systems with extreme levels of complexity. What makes good tools for both artists and technicians to use, and what are the different needs of film production and artistic exploration?
