"Brass Music of the Galant Age"
Daniel Serafini and Nicholas Newland present a lecture/recital on Viennese brass music of the early Classical period, including a performance of the Albrechtsberger trombone concerto on period instruments.
The Amadè Players are performing as part of the PureGold festival for the fifth year this summer - in the past we have given world and British premieres of pieces from the 17th and 18th centuries, and this year present Albrechtsberger's Concerto for Trombone at the Royal Festival Hall launch event, and then a connected lecture recital given jointly by Nick Newland and Daniel Serafini, one of the leading period trombonists of his generation.
Nicholas Newland is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Lecturer in Music at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is currently undertaking research into the sacred vocal compositions of Johann Baptist Wanhal and is a member of the JB Wanhal Association's Research Council. As a conductor Nicholas has worked around the world, ranging from period instrument ensembles giving world premiere broadcasts for the BBC of Vivaldi violin sonatas, to recording, producing and touring for Sony Music for the soundtracks of Indian movies. Nicholas is currently working to complete two new editions which will be recorded by Resonus Classics this summer at St John's, Smith Square.
