Event overview
A double-bill of emerging talent from the NX Records label
This Friday we take over James Lavelle's Meltdown with compilation artists Machines and These Ghosts at the Front Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall followed by mixtape artist Bunki in the Clore Ballroom!
NX Records is a collaboration between Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Records and Goldsmiths, University of London.
Talented five-piece Machines have been writing and performing together since 2012. Caragh Campbell (vocals and SPD), Alex Horky (keyboards and synths), Sam Monk-Wilson (electronics), Ferg Ireland (double bass) and George Bird (SPD & drums) create a complex, multi-layered sound.
It's held together by soaring vocals, which rise over the glitches and pulses of electronics, arhythmic keyboards and the intricacies of the double bass and drums to build songs grounded in a darkness deeply rooted in the concrete landscape of London.
Formed in 2007, with a shared love of moody minimalism and atmospheric grandeur, These Ghosts's musical career has already seen them release their critically acclaimed debut album and rack up a string of stunning live performances.
They are currently working on their next album, to be released with NX later this year. The performance features support from artists from the 2014 NX Records Mixtape.
NX Records also present a DJ set in the The Clore Ballroom from 6.30pm.
Following the successful launch of NX Records with its 2013 mixtape and debut compilation release – Crossing Lines – the south-east London label brings artists from the compilation and 2014 mixtape to Meltdown.
